Wash State legislators get it wrong

May 1, 2010 – Increased B&O: Despite all-out opposition from Realtors® this session, the Business and Occupation (B&O) tax for many small business services, including real estate brokers, was increased from 1.5 to 1.8 percent for the period May 1, 2010 through June 30, 2013.

In their desperate attempt to plug the budget gaps, the state legislature dumps on small business owners again. But then they also were genius enough to tax CANDY.         Brilliant !

  1. Oh yes and this is “temporary”. Mark your calendar for June 30, 2013 and see if this tax increase disappears? I would wager that it stays.

Real estate professionals have no means to pass these types of taxes back to the consumer ( unlike most businesses), so the cost to earn a living goes up for those who have seen their incomes dive in the last couple of years.

This is poor precedent from the legislature.
